Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo has joined the network of nighttime biodiversity-friendly entities distinguished with the “Noite com Vida” (Night with Life) award, which recognizes establishments that demonstrate exemplary practices in reducing light pollution.
This award, created as part of the LIFE Natura@night and LIFE Freiras projects, aims to promote the reduction of light pollution in the regions of Macaronesia—Madeira, the Azores, and the Canary Islands. The initiative seeks to involve communities, companies, and institutions in adopting good outdoor lighting practices that are more biodiversity-friendly, without requiring significant monetary investments in new equipment.
Managed by Vinci Airports, through ANA, Madeira Airport reinforces its commitment to responsible and sustainable lighting practices. This distinction highlights the high level of implementation of measures that reduce light pollution, protecting nocturnal species and contributing to a more vibrant nightlife, without compromising the safety of airport operations.
