Our GIS and Light Pollution technician went to the Azores and Canary Islands to measure light pollution in Natura 2000 sites, replicating the work done on the east coast of Madeira.

The work is done by capturing photographs with a fish-eye lens and using a spectrophotometer to capture the brightness of the sky dome. Besides this objective, this visit allowed the identification of artificial light sources in the urban areas of the municipalities covered by the project.

These samplings were carried out in the 27 protected areas of Natura 2000 Network inserted in the project, in Madeira, the Azores and the Canary Islands, on days with low cloud cover and natural moonlight. These results will allow us to study the light pollution to which nocturnal biodiversity is exposed, night after night.
