In recent years, the municipality of Santa Cruz has invested in making its public street lighting more efficient, intelligent and with less impact on local biodiversity, which has already allowed the municipality annual savings of 300,000 euros in the electricity bill.

The wise use of electricity and its intelligent management are not the only concerns of Santa Cruz. As partners in the LIFE Natura@night project, the municipality seeks to minimise the environmental impacts of light pollution on local biodiversity, reducing, in critical areas, public lighting in the months when birds leave their nests, so as not to harm the young birds that are more sensitive to light.
