The “Noite com Vida” (Night with Life) Award was created as part of the LIFE Natura@night and LIFE Freiras projects, with the aim of reducing light pollution in the Macaronesia regions, namely Madeira, the Azores, and the Canary Islands. It is intended to recognize hotels and other establishments, public or private, that adopt responsible lighting practices, minimizing impacts on nocturnal fauna and flora and promoting a safer night for biodiversity.

The award is given annually and has four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, the latter being the highest recognition. To be awarded, establishments must follow good lighting practice criteria, without the need for additional financial investment. Among the benefits of the award are reduced energy consumption, improved sleep quality for guests, enhanced environmental commitment to customers and the community, and integration into a network of entities that promote biodiversity conservation.

With this initiative, SPEA reinforces the importance of a conscious approach to lighting, demonstrating that it is possible to reconcile human comfort, energy savings, and wildlife protection. If you manage an establishment with outdoor lighting, you can also be part of this network of good practices.
