SPEA, as coordinator of the project, convened this working meeting to present the Master Plan for Public Lighting of Santa Cruz and Machico and what the elaboration and implementation of these plans at municipal level implies, in Madeira, for the partners of Câmara de Lobos, Funchal and Santana.

The session took place in the Auditorium of the University of Madeira, Colégio dos Jesuítas and was also transmitted via Zoom to the partners in the Azores and Canary Islands, with 31 participants.

Cátia Gouveia (SPEA) presented the LIFE Natura@night project; Paulo Brazão (Fluxo de Luz) made a presentation on the Public Lighting Master Plans: technical works and document structure; and finally, Filipe Sousa, Mayor of Santa Cruz, explained the Implementation of Public Lighting Master Plans at municipal level in the case of Santa Cruz.

During this presentation, the Mayor Filipe Sousa referred that Santa Cruz has obtained values of CO2 reduction in the order of 90 tons per year and that the first alterations in public lighting, carried out firstly in luminaries with greater power (enhancing the return on investment), have obtained exceptional results. At the moment, the annual savings are around 400,000 euros, and the expenses have already been largely reimbursed.
