On April 20, between 5.30pm and 9.30pm, the second BioBlitz in the Madeira Archipelago will take place, an initiative organised by SPEA in collaboration with Machico Town Council.

A BioBlitz is an educational and scientific event that aims to raise awareness of the preservation of biodiversity by searching for and identifying as many species of fauna and flora as possible in a short period of time and a limited area. This event is open to all nature lovers and has the support of a team of specialists who will help identify the species.

This is an unmissable opportunity to learn about Madeira’s rich biodiversity!

Citizen science project on nocturnal biodiversity

Let’s put nocturnal creatures on the map, shall we? The Natura@night project, on the iNaturalist/BioDiversity4all platform, seeks to discover and map the biodiversity of the creatures most susceptible to light pollution in the archipelagos of Madeira, the Azores and the Canary Islands.

Data on seabirds, bats and butterflies will be included in this project, as well as data from the various BioBlitz that will be carried out as part of the LIFE Natura@night project.
