Nine municipalities from Madeira, the Azores and the Canary Islands are joining hands in the fight against light pollution.
To celebrate this commitment, over the coming weeks, interpretative panels will be opened in the municipalities of Santana, Machico, Santa Cruz, Funchal and Câmara de Lobos, with information about the LIFE Natura@night project.
These bilingual structures, placed in places of high visitation by local communities and tourists, highlight the pioneering actions developed in each of the municipalities with the major objective of reducing light pollution and protecting biodiversity, ensuring that solutions are compatible with people’s lives.

In total, nine interpretative panels are being installed in the project’s partner municipalities: two in the Azores (in Santa Cruz da Graciosa and Corvo), two in the Canary Islands (in Buenavista del Norte and Mogán) and five in Madeira.
The official inaugurations take place on the following dates:
- Machico ( seafront) – June 20, 4pm
- Santana (Miradouro do Guindaste) – 21st June, 11am
- Santa Cruz (Ponta da Oliveira) – 22nd June, 11:30am
- Câmara de Lobos (Autonomy Square) – 22nd June, 8pm
- Funchal (Promenade do Lido) – date to be confirmed
Together, we can make the night full of life and preserve the night sky!
